The Culprit Behind Jaw Pain

Estimates suggest that there are over 10 million people in the U.S. living with the effects of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). TMD makes it difficult to speak or chew, and patients often struggle with jaw and facial pain on a daily basis from the condition. In cases of TMD, the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), which connect the lower jaw to either side of the skull to allow for movement, become damaged. This leads to pain and discomfort in the jaw, neck and around the ear area. TMD symptoms may include:

  • Jaw pain
  • Muscles spasms
  • Headaches
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Loss of hearing
  • Limited jaw movement
  • Mechanical damage to the jaw joint (TMJ) itself
